Moberly, MO — January 14, 2026 — Moberly School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Damon Wells as the principal of Moberly High School, effective August 2026. Mr. Wells has served as assistant principal at Moberly High School for the past two years and brings a deep understanding of the school’s culture, students, and staff into this new role.
During Wells’ tenure as assistant principal, he has been instrumental in supporting instructional leadership, strengthening student supports, and collaborating closely with teachers and staff to maintain a positive learning environment with high expectations. He has been a steady presence at activities and daily school life, earning the respect and trust of the school community.
“Over the past five years, MHS has made meaningful progress for students under our mission, ‘Challenge to Prepare; Prepare for Challenge.' This success reflects the strong collaboration among our teachers, staff, and administration and a shared commitment to improving Moberly High School. Mr. Wells is well-positioned to build on this momentum and lead the school forward as our next principal through a seamless transition.” said Mrs. Hill-Haag, Moberly High School principal, who is retiring after this school year.
Wells brings more than two decades of experience in public education to Moberly High School, having served as a teacher, coach, and high school administrator. Throughout his career, Wells has demonstrated a consistent record of stability, success, and purposeful leadership. In addition to his extensive administrative background, he is widely recognized for his leadership in extra-curricular activities including rebuilding and leading highly successful programs. He holds advanced degrees that reflect a career grounded in both preparation and practice.
“I have found a renewed passion for education serving in my role at Moberly High School. I have been overwhelmed by the support of the community and feel honored to serve the students, staff, and families here. I am committed to building on the school’s strong traditions while leading with integrity, collaboration, and high expectations.” Wells and his wife, Amanda, have two children–daughter, Sydney, a graduate of Texas Christian University, and son, Hayden, who will graduate this spring from the University of Missouri–Columbia.
